('the Opening') is the first chapter (sura) of the Quran. It consists seven verses (ayat) which consist of a prayer for guidance and mercy. Al-Fatiha is recited in Muslim obligatory and voluntary prayers, known as salah.
The primary literal meaning of the expression "Al-Fatiha" is "The Opener/The Key".
Praise belongs to God, Lord of the Worlds, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy, Master of the Day of Judgement.
It is You we worship; it is You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path: the path of those You have blessed, those who incur no anger and who have not gone astray. |
