Odia is an Indo-Aryan language and the official language of the Indian state of Odisha, formerly known as Orissa. It is also spoken in parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Scholars believe Odia originated in the 10th century CE and is based on the ancient language of Magadhi Prakrit.

Odia is an officially recognized language in the Indian constitution and is spoken by around 50 million people worldwide. In India, it is the ninth most spoken language, with 3.75 crore speakers, or 3.1% of the country's population. In Odisha, 82% of the population are native speakers.

Odia is written using the Odia script, as well as Odia Braille and the historical Kalinga script.
